Awaken Belonging and Responsibility to the World

The Work That Reconnects.

“Decolonial hope” workshops derive from the framework, the Work That Reconnects, founded by environmental activist and scholar Joanna Macy. Here, it is re-visioned and re-contextualized to anchor the work in justice, repair, and collective liberation.

A Decolonial Lens.

A decolonial lens helps a deeper grasp of the patterns of power that emerge from colonialism and supremacy, which control the access and the exploitation of resources, culture, knowledge, and relationships.

An Experiential Approach.

Practices following our “other than thinking” skills (body, intuitive, imaginative, spiritual) deconstruct the usual processes of being in the world, allow for more ease in holding complexity, detach from linearity & certainty, awaken a more visceral sense of kinship and belonging, and empower agency & courage in our various pathways.

Social and Political Awareness.

Recognizing our entanglement and role in the system can be deeply unsettling, but within a supportive group, it enables us to move away from the systemic patterns living in us and to create conditions for collective healing.

Five Stages in a Spiral Pathway.

We root our gratitude in justice, reciprocity, repair & healing. We take responsibility and accountability for our entanglement within the system of oppression. We build capacity to feel pain and extend our circle of empathy. We nurture humility in the unlearning and learning of perspectives, honoring ancestral and indigenous wisdom. At last, we embolden our desire to play our part, moving away from performative action and care, centering underrepresented voices, healing broken bonds, and leaning into communal well-being.

Multiple Formats.

The workshops can be stand-alone sessions focusing on one aspect of the work (decolonial grief, entanglement in the system, rebuilding community, reassessing and reorienting actions, etc.) or a series to practice being with diverse life experiences, varied backgrounds and worldviews, and different learning paces and processes.
